What is a forex managed account?
Forex managed account is a trading account opened in the name of a client traded and managed by a professional trader who is paid an agreed percentage of the profit he makes. This system gives you a professional management of the money you invest and very interesting profit.
At the beginning it is necessary to get familiar with the term forex trading account- what it is and how it works. First of all, for trading on the forex market you will need to open an account at some brokerage company.
Forex managed account is a trading account opened in the name of a client traded and managed by a professional trader who is paid an agreed percentage of the profit he makes. This system gives you a professional management of the money you invest and very interesting profit. At the beginning it is necessary to get familiar with the term forex trading account- what it is and how it works. First of all, for trading on the forex market you will need to open an account at some brokerage company.

Broker or brokerage company is a financial institution enabling trading in the forex market by means of a trading platform. Trading account, as well as your bank account is in your name and you need your identification card to open it and send money to it. The primary difference between bank and trading account is that the money you send to the latter one is supposed to be traded in forex. Next difference is that you can send money to the trading account from your bank account and vice versa only. This is possible due to legislative measures that eliminate money laundering and ensure that your managed account is safe and transparent.

In the previous paragraph we have explained what the trading account is and now we move on to what managed account does.

What we know so far is that the trading account is opened in Broker Company; it is added to the portfolio of the money manager you choose and who trades your account. I am going to explain it into more details so even those less experienced will understand what it means. Money manager is a professional trader or company managing the accounts. In simple terms, you hire an experienced professional to manage your trading account who trades it instead of you.

These services are in most of the cases free and the only thing you pay is the so called performance fee, e.g. your money manager is paid only when he makes profit. This principle of getting paid only when his trading is successful is not only highly motivating for him but also it protects your money. How? Well, when he makes a loss he won’t be paid until he makes new historical profit. (Please read FAQ and Investors glossary for more explanation of high-water mark based performance fee).

Now a very interesting question arises. How is it possible that some professional trader manages your account and still your money is protected so he cannot steal it? This problem is solved by means of Power of Attorney (POA) or Limited Power of Attorney (LPOA). POA is an authorization you grant to the money manager so he can trade your trading account. In POA there are two important points included: to whom you grant the authorization for managing the account and what percentage of the profit he will get (performance fee). POA or LPOA is a special contract between you and your money manager; however, it is the broker who keeps an eye on all the process. Broker according to the POA signed by both, you and your money manager, allows the money manager to trade your account. However, you are still the only person who can transfer or withdraw money from the account and no one else is granted with the power to do that. Broker is also responsible for dividing the profit at the end of month according to the contract, so you can completely rely on your broker.

From the pragmatic point of view, you only have to open the account, find a good money manager, give him an authorization for trading your account and check the development of the account or withdraw profits.
